This report summarizes the varying statutes governing guardianship in thirteen states that were part of the National Home of Your Own Alliance in 1996. The booklet is the result of a collaborative effort between the National Guardianship Association and the National Home of Your Own Alliance. It is intended to be a reference for individuals and organizations wanting to assist persons with disabilities who have guardians to own their homes. Each state description lists the decision maker, process required, timeline expectations, who the guardian of last resort would be, and (when available) state resource persons. The booklet recognizes contradictions and promotes the education of attorneys and judges regarding the benefits of home ownership and control for individuals with disabilities who have a guardian.
